The Dark Deception

In the Warhammer World armed conflict is often a way of life, but this is a particularly fearsome time as the Old World is in the grips of a dark force. The forces of evil, while not necessarily working in unison, threaten to destroy the Empire. Oddly enough, those most likely to be effected by the outcome of these events were not the first to realize the potential danger, nor were they aware that they are linked together in some way. The warning came from across the Great Ocean in a most unusual fashion...

Because of their acute sense of the ebb and flow of magical energies, the Lizardmen first became aware of an ominous disturbance in the Winds of Magic. They fear that someone or something is tampering with the winds for a malevolent purpose and have realized that the center of this disturbance is somewhere in the northern regions of the Old World. A small envoy of Lizardmen secretly booked passage on a trade ship and traveled to Marienburg disguised as Priests. Their mission was to warn the Empire of the magical disturbance in hopes that they will be able to stop what is happening there. Once made aware of the impending danger, messengers were sent to the far reaches of the Empire to spread the warning. At the same time in the Northlands, Kislev has witnessed an increase in the number of Chaos warbands attacking and it is almost certain that these abominations of the foul gods are merely probing their defenses for something much bigger.

To the South, it has been discovered that Orcs are amassing and moving northwards but it is unclear what their objective is. The Dwarves are concerned with the Orcs’ movements and are preparing their defenses as well as a few surprises of their own. In the West, the Dark Elves have been harassing the shores of Bretonnia more frequently than usual, capturing a great number of Bretonnian citizens into slavery. However, in recent weeks the number of raids has decreased dramatically and it is believed that the marauding Dark Elf ships have sailed north. There have been a number of reports from trade ship captains in Marienburg who witnessed pitched battles in the Sea of Chaos between the Dark Elf Black Arks and what appeared to be High Elf ships. There is further speculation by one of the trade ship captains that the High Elves were sailing east towards the shores of Troll Country prior to being attacked by the Dark Elf raiders.

The Wood Elf forests of Loren have also seen an increase in hostile activity as parties from all sides attempt to loot the forests for scarce resources. Normally content to protect their homeland and remain uninvolved with outside conflicts, a certain faction of the Wood Elf kingdom has vowed to find the source of the trouble and has struck out on its own against the wishes of others of their kind.

It is likely that all of these events are linked in some way but as of this point, there is only one being who knows how or why. It is also entirely possible that some or all of the events that have transpired so far have been an elaborate deception. The one question is "who is being deceived?"

One thing is certain… his success or failure will forever alter the fate of the Old World.
