Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader Tournament Results

Overview
At the Rogue Trader Tournament, participants squared off against each other in 3 separate games, each lasting two hours. Players were awarded points based on the outcome of their matches and were rated on sportsmanship by their opponents at the completion of every game. While gamers were attempting to outmatch their opponents, the tournament officials judged their painting and modeling abilities. Each player’s army composition was judged prior to the day of the tournament. Players were also given the "Dreaded Pub Quiz" which is actually a fun trivia test to determine their knowledge of game facts.

At the end of the day four title-holders emerged. Each winner received a totally awesome Rogue Trader Tournament trophy and a full color certificate. In addition, the overall winner received a T-shirt emblazoned with the words "Tournament Champion". If you see someone wearing this shirt at your next game, you’d better be ready for a tough match!

Overall Winner
Mark Nelson of Cottage Grove took home the title of Overall Tournament Champion, having obtained the highest combined points total for all categories and a game record of 2 wins, 0 losses, and 1 tie. Mark played Chaos Space Marines of the Cobra Legion.

Sportsmanship Award
Josh Dunn, of Edina, was the winner of the Best Sportsmanship award. This award is given to the player with the highest sportsmanship score. In this case there was a tie between Josh and James Reijo! The deciding factor was the army composition score and Josh edged out James by a scant 2 points!

Best Army
Don Bauman from Waseca, having the highest combined score for Army Appearance and Composition, received the Best Army award. Don’s Ork Army "Grozo’s Gristmill" was fantastically painted with loads of character! Everyone should be so lucky to play against an army like this one.

Best Painted
Theodore J. Huble of Bloomington took the title of Best Painted Army with his Holy Order of the White Cross Space Marines Chapter. This army is proof that you don’t need to toss out your old miniatures when the new ones come out! The "old school" Space Marines look right at home with the fearsome new Land Raider Crusader!

In addition to the four main winners, two special awards were given:

Heroic Deed Award
Dirk Edwards won this award for having the most heroic episode of the Tournament.

Hard Luck Award
James Reijo of Rosemount took home the Hard Luck Award for having the most outrageous hard luck incident of the tournament! James describes the horrible turn of events in his own words…

"To sum up everything, the average dice roll for the entire game I rolled was 2. Unless I had to make a Leadership check..... then, without fail, the sixes arrived! The battle was going quickly and we were given the 30 minute warning when we decided to pick up the pace a bit to try to finish our game. My opponent Dominic had 3 Reaver jet bikes in close combat with a pile of my Orks on them, like 10 or so. He killed a couple and then it was my turn to attack back. In a rash decision, Dominic offered to just remove his bikes altogether from the table before I even rolled the dice.....I should have taken him up on the offer, but instead I said:

"Nah man, leave them and let's roll, cause you never know what might happen."

What did happen was with over 30 attacks (hitting on a 4+) I only hit FOUR TIMES!!!!!!! Then the only wound I managed to roll ended up being saved by the jetbike’s' armor....sheesh! I was certain I was playing "Yahtzee" instead of 40K with all the ones I was rolling!"
